4 Ways to Get Your Pub Ready for the Summer

Tips for preparing your pub for summer hours by using chalkboards for additional advertising.

Summer is fast approaching and when it reaches full swing, your pub’s business will be likely to skyrocket. So what do you need to do in preparation for making the most of the longer days, summer fun and positive atmosphere?

Organise some local events

There’s no doubt that we all love to sit in a pub garden in the summer evening, irrelevant of whether it’s a school night or not. It’s the best time of year for pubs and one that you should definitely make the most of.
Organising some fun local events is a great way to bring in the customers and also encourage families to visit with their kids. Whether it’s a party afternoon for the children, a quiz time in the evening or a themed karaoke night at the weekend, everyone loves a local event. It also brings the community together and encourages mutual support of local businesses, meaning that everyone can benefit whilst also having a great time.

Invest in your advertising

Advertising is going to play a key role in bringing in new customers during the fairer weather. It may be that you decide to advertise on some billboards in your town centre or you to go for a rebrand, whatever tactic you choose, it’s important that it’s well thought out and has a clear goal; it’s no good advertising your local events at the weekend if your goal is to encourage more customers during the week. So, make sure your actions and goals line up.
It may also be worth thinking about low-budget advertising in the form of leaflets, flyers or even discount vouchers in local magazines and newsletters.

Make sure your signage is up to date

Chalkboards are a great advertising tool for pubs but there are a number of things you need to consider when it comes to making the most of them. Chalkboards are a very particular form of signage and therefore need to be treated uniquely and optimised differently. Take a look at our guide on what you need to know about chalkboard advertising for a more in-depth look at this.
Keeping your signs – whether they’re chalkboard or otherwise – up to date is imperative to good customer service. You don’t want to be advertising an offer on one board, for your customers to discover that it expired last month.
And when it comes to updating your chalkboard signage, be sure that you don’t over complicate things. Simple and clear signage is often the most effective method, just take a look at this blog post here.

Change your menu

If you’ve done all of the above but still feel your business needs a little something else to get it ready for the summer season, then consider changing your menu and incorporating some more seasonal dishes. Not many people are going to want to eat a beef stew when it’s 27° outside. A seasonal menu is a great chance to also showcase the talent of your chef(s) and provide your recurring customers with something that’s fresh.
